Even brand new homes have flaws. While most homeowners can identify the
cosmetic deficiencies in a home, a trained professional should be consulted
to examine the technical aspects and mechanical function of the home.
If you've purchased
a new home in Ontario and you want the peace of mind that comes with
knowing your purchase is protected, please visit the Tarion
website.
In Summary:
- Construction defects and Ontario Building Code Violations - One year
- Water leakage (basement, roof, exterior walls, windows, and doors)
- Two years
- Major structural defects - Seven years
It is the homeowner’s
responsibility to notify the builder of any major deficiencies inside
these time frames. We suggest having the inspection done 10 or 11 months
after posession of the home. Let one of our qualified inspectors
who is familiar with the codes walk you through this process and provide
a full report that can then be submitted to the builder.
We examine the house from attic to basement and our report covers all
the major systems in the house including Roofing, Exterior, Structure,
Electrical, Heating and Cooling, Insulation, Plumbing and the Interior.
